Lanzhou Jiaotong University ( LZJTU ) (formerly Lanzhou Railway University ) was established in 1958 through the combination of departments and sections from two highly reputable Chinese railway institutes: Tangshan Railway Institute (the present Southwest Jiaotong University) and Beijing Railway Institute (the present Beijing Jiaotong University).After 50 years of construction and development, LZJTU ranks as a comprehensive university with catachrestic in engineering but coordinated and balanced multidisciplinary development in the fields as natural science, liberal arts,, economics and management. LZJTU now has 3 campuses that cover an area of 258 acres ｡ It has 20 schools, 1 teaching department and 4 postdoctoral research centers. There are 34 doctoral degree programmes, 105 master’s degree programmes,63 undergraduate programmes, 19 provincial-level key disciplines, 2 national experimental teaching demonstration center, and 1 national University Science and Technology District. The university currently has a faculty of 2277 educational professionals,including 1,455 full-time teachers. Among them there are 786 professors and associate professors.
